Looking for some Interaction Traction

This blog post is just sort of a fishing for feedback sort of deal. So here's what I'd like to know if you can spare the time:

How aware would you say you are of the conditions and terms you agree to to gain membership to sites such as facebook?

How concerned (if at all) are you with these terms?

What do you know about HTTP cookies?

How do you feel about information sharing between sites?

These are just basic sorts of questions. If you have any further random thoughts or opinions about the internet and/or privacy on the internet, let me know!

  1. Did I actually read them? Not really, I don't think many people take the time to. Just check the box and agree to it. Bad huh?

Cookies... doest that log what you look at so that it can give you those ads when you next browse?

I try not to give info that will affect me, but seriously now, how much 'real' info is too much?

  2. As far as conditions and terms, the only time I read them is when I am doing something that will affect my bank account or something important like that. Otherwise, I don't read them, and I don't really care about them either. I know, I know, that's not the best attitude.

I have no idea what cookies are, I don't really pay attention to that kind of stuff. I basically go on the internet, check my email, like a few statuses and move on with my day.

The information that I share on the internet is kept to a minimum. I have a seperate checking account for anything that I buy online, so I just transfer the funds and if any other place tries to take money, they can't because there is none in there. I can't say that I really do too much other stuff on the internet so there is really no information for sites to share.

  3. I usually...well never read the condiitions and terms especially if money isn't involved. They are so lengthy and wordy and are meant to be so obnoxious to discourage people from actually reading them.

Im not very concerned because i have pretty good awareness of the capacity of the internet. Being somewhat tech/computer savvy i fully understand the internet's capabilities, and so I try to be careful about any information I give out on it.

Cookies are saved files on both your computer and on the internet that show every website you have ever visited. Basically they work as an online tracking device. They can also track any and everything you write.

I think sharing that info between the sites comes along with being on the internet. It is something that you have to understand when you join a site or visit one frequently.. you aren't this ghost of a being on the internet, someone somewhere is following everything you do on the net (creepy i know).

  4. Thanks, guys! A lot of good stuff so far, this really helps me gauge my potential approaches.

Keep it coming if you have an opinion not yet expressed, or even if you'd like to second a thought, give it a go!

  5. I concur with Trevor what he says, if moneys involve than I tend to read a little more, but if not that I won't read it at all (the terms and conditions). On the other hand, I know a lot about the HTTP cookies only because my father has been working with that sort of thing,so I'm aware that, not only do you need anti-spyware but you need to empty the cookies almost every day.
